Memorial Day, formerly called Decoration Day, was established in May 1868 to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice during the Civil War. After World War I the holiday was expanded to include the remembrance of all Americans who have so selflessly sacrificed their lives for our country. By 1971 Memorial Day was recognized as an official federal holiday. While many believe the real reason for this holiday is obscured by the concerts, barbecues, and celebrations that most Americans participate in, we think the time away from work spent with friends and family is a great way to honor those who have laid down their lives for our freedoms. The brave men and women in our nation’s history fought for our unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. With reverence to those individuals and their families, we choose to live life to the fullest, especially during Memorial Day Weekend.
Hilton Head Island is the perfect place to celebrate our nation's freedom with those who matter most.

Friday, May 25th – Monday, May 28th
We’re celebrating Memorial Day with four full days of live music at three different venues. You’ll find local and visiting bands at the Tiki Hut, after hours at The Porch, and on the beach itself. We’re starting small with 12-hours of live music on Friday, May 25th beginning at 1:00 pm at the Tiki Hut and ending at The Porch at 1:00 am. The Tiki Hut will open early on Saturday morning at 10:00 am – you can’t party all day if you don’t start early, right? The festivities really get going at 1:00 pm with live music, tie-dye shirts, color sand, watermelon eating competitions, corn hole, and hula-hoop competitions. Local aerial silk performers will rock our worlds with mind-blowing stunts on the beach throughout the afternoon. Saturday evening and into the night we kick things up even more with live music right on the beach taking breaks only to let the fire performers do their thing while you watch a little dazed and confused about how they’re not setting themselves on fire. After the second band on the beach stage, we’ll head to The Porch and unwind with acoustic music by Old Soles until 1:00 am. After the best day ever, you might think there’s no way Sunday could possibly beat Saturday. You might be wrong. We’re doing it all over again with three different bands, including local favorite Cranford Hollow on the beach stage to close out the night. You’ll probably want to sleep in Monday morning, so we’ll take it easier on you. Live music at the Tiki Hut will start at 1:00 pm and go until 10:00 pm. Enjoy the last sunset of Memorial Day Weekend at the only spot on Hilton Head Island you can have your toes in the sand and a drink in hand. With all these Memorial Day Weekend festivities on Hilton Head Island, you have every reason to head outside, enjoy the weather, and celebrate the life we are privileged to live.
