Fall in Love with Hilton Head Island

September 10, 2018 |

Fall is the perfect time of year to experience the local side of Hilton Head Island. As temperatures cool, we’re trading sultry summer nights for cocktails by firelight and the buzz of busy restaurants and beaches for more personalized service and quiet moments in nature. Fall is an extraordinary time of year; it’s warm enough to enjoy most all the summer activities, such as fishing, biking, kayaking, and days at the beach, but cool enough to sit by the fire in the evening and enjoy a coffee on the beach in the early morning. The sky is crisp and clear, the service is personal, and the quiet beach extends seemingly forever. No two seasons are alike, and every year is different from the last. We’re excited for the opportunity to share these Top 7 Fall activities on Hilton Head Island with you:

1. Beach Volleyball

With a beach volleyball court conveniently located at the Tiki Hut, the mild temperatures will keep you playing longer. Work up less of a sweat in the fall and finish each game with one of our local’s favorite signature cocktails.

2. Coffee Shops & Cafes

There is no better time than fall to enjoy a warm cup of coffee or tea and hearty baked goods at local cafes and coffee shops.

Caretta Coffee, located right next door to the Beach House, is a "family-owned independent coffee shop and cafe driven by love for people and a passion for community." With a selection of charcuterie meats, baked goods, sandwiches, coffee, and espresso drinks, Caretta Coffee is the perfect place to start your day or enjoy a mid-day pick-me-up.

Hilton Head Social Bakery, located at Shelter Cove Marina, is a French bakery featuring breakfast, pastries, tarts, fresh bread, and a variety of comforting warm beverages. A delicious made from scratch French baked good is, somehow, the perfect Hilton Head Island treat.

Less than five minutes by bike or a 10-minute walk from the Beach House, the Watusi Cafe features homestyle breakfast classics, six specialty benedicts, a robust lunch menu of sandwiches and wraps, a coffee bar, and a marketplace. With an, "it is what it is," motto, this family-owned restaurant is a wonderfully unique Hilton Head Island experience.

Of course, The Porch located on site, features an extensive breakfast and lunch menu, including southern classics such as chicken and waffles, geechie boy grits, brisket hash and eggs, seafood and much more. Hilton Head Island is a gold mine of delicious food, but it wouldn't be a real island experience without some southern style barbeque and an ocean view at The Porch.

3. Fall Festivals

A classic fall activity, festivals in Hilton Head Island and the surrounding areas do not disappoint. Experience the Hilton Head Island Heritage Festival in September, Historic Bluffton Arts and Seafood Festival in October, Hilton Head Island Concours d'Elegance & Motoring Festival in November, and many more

4. Dine Outside

Outdoor dining is distinctively Hilton Head. With more mild weather and less crowded restaurants, enjoying your meal on an outdoor patio is never more pleasant than in the fall. You don’t need to leave the Beach House Resort property to delight in the perfect outdoor setting and ocean view at The Porch. Of course, exploring the area is a joy so, once you've had your fill of pulled pork nachos at The Porch, check out the Old Oyster Factory, Hudson's on the Docks, and Black Marlin Bayside Grill for even more outdoor dining and delicious food.

5. 80's Themed Full Moon Party at the Tiki Hut

September 22nd 1:00pm - 1:00am

full moon party

September's 80's themed Full Moon Party at the Tiki Hut features Jojo Squirrel & The Homepickles, Blue Monday, and an afterparty at The Porch with Old Soles. Blue Monday, a tribute to the MTV generation, features a variety of classic 80's and 90's music from, "an era where the music really smiled." Grab your aqua net, shimmy into your neon leggings, and tease your hair to the sky at the ultimate opportunity to live out your 80's fashion fantasies.

6. Shopping

We can all use a little retail therapy now and then. Fall is the perfect time to enjoy the unique shopping opportunities in Hilton Head Island. The Village at Wexford features over 30 local merchants from around Hilton Head Island and Bluffton. Take a piece of Hilton Head Island home with unique jewelry, clothes, art, and more.

You'll be sure to find the perfect souvenir at Coligny Plaza, featuring over 60 shops, restaurants, and kiosks. Grab the perfect dress for dinner, spoil your favorite little one with local treats, or find a piece of home décor to commemorate your Hilton Head Island adventure.

7. Visit the Harbour Town Light House

The 90-foot red and white Harbour Town Lighthouse has been a beacon of light in Hilton Head Island since 1970. A journey to the top of the 114-step tower takes you back in time with historical relics and photos of our island's past. Breathtaking views of Hilton Head Island await at the top including the surrounding saltwater marsh, Harbour Town Golf Links, and the harbor. Spend time at the top taking photos and shopping at the Shop at the Top before heading back down with a new appreciation of the candy-striped Harbour Town Light House.
