Spring Time on Hilton Head Island

March 8, 2018 | Activities

Technically, the first day of Spring isn’t until March 20th, but here in Hilton Head Island, it feels like Spring sprung a few weeks early. We’re not complaining – the bikini weather and cloudless skies helped jumpstart one of the most fun times of the year at the Beach House Resort. The list of Spring activities in Hilton Head Island is long, but we’re here to help narrow it down.

1. RBC Heritage PGA Golf Tournament

The 50th Annual RBC Heritage is South Carolina’s only PGA golf tournament. The tournament is held annually at the award-winning Harbor Town Link Golf Course in Hilton Head Island. The first tournament was held in 1969 and won by famed golfer Arnold Palmer with a three stroke margin of victory. The 2018 RBC Heritage is sponsored by Boeing and supports several charities, including the Heritage Champions Fore Charity, Heritage Classic Foundation Scholars, and more. For those of you who want to hit the links yourselves, Spring is the perfect time of year to enjoy the many golf courses throughout Hilton Head Island. Our 12-mile island home features over 20 championship golf courses for golfers of all skill levels.

2. Easter Eggstravaganza

This annual free admissions event features an Easter Egg hunt with eggs dropped from a helicopter, bounce houses, concessions, zip lining, and entertainment. The Easter Bunny himself wouldn’t miss this celebration. Head to Shelter Cove Community Park between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm to enjoy this family friendly local event. Free admission includes the Easter Egg hunt, beginning at 11:00 am, so don’t be late.

The only thing better than one Easter Egg Hunt is two, and registered overnight guests of the resort are invited to join us at the Beach House Resort on April 1st for our 2nd Annual Egg Hunt on the pool deck.

3. Fishing in Hilton Head Island

It’s almost always a great time of year to head out on the water and do some fishing. While every season offers something unique, Spring marks the beginning of excellent Cobia fishing in the Lowcountry. Hilton Head Island is known to have some of the best cobia runs on the eastern seaboard with the action really starting to pick-up in late spring and into May. While Cobia sure are a fun fish to catch, you can also expect to target Triple Tail, Spanish Mackerel, Blue Fish, sharks, and more in the Spring. Hilton Head Island offers a variety of local guided fishing charters, including in-shore, off-shore, fresh water, kayak, and shark fishing.

If you’re looking for a professional tour with a good ol’ boy local vibe, the Fishin’ Coach Captain Dan Utley is your man for in-shore fishing. Want to go off-shore? Captain Brian Vaughn can hook you up.

4. Head Outside and Enjoy Mother Nature

It’s no secret that the Spring weather is enviable in Hilton Head Island. With over 12 miles of white sand beaches and 60 miles of biking trails, it’s easy to get outside and enjoy the natural wonders of this area. The natural world of Hilton Head Island is more than sand and surf. Did you know that our protected wetlands are home to bald eagles, osprey, pelicans, sandpipers, wood storks, and more? According to the Audubon Society, we’re home to over 350 native birds with an additional 200 species flocking to our island every year.

To experience nature in Hilton Head Island, head over to the Sea Pines Forest Preserve. You can explore the forest preserve trails by guided boat, horseback, fishing, and wagon tours, see the 4,000-year-old Native American seashell ring, explore the wetlands, and enjoy a picnic in one of Hilton Head Island’s most naturally beautiful locations.

For the chance to visit with some of our most playful locals, hop on a Dolphin Eco Tour. The waters surrounding Hilton Head Island are home to a large population of bottlenose dolphins. Dolphins can be sighted year-round in Hilton Head Island, but the warm weather in the Spring makes the trip even more pleasant. Outside Hilton Head even offers a sunrise or sunset dolphin tour – it doesn’t get much better than that.

5. Celebrate Spring at the Beach House Resort

We don’t like to miss out on any celebrations, especially when we can enjoy the incredible Lowcountry weather. Our friends at the Tiki Hut are featuring live music every day of the week, including two bands on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Warmer days mean warmer nights and the return of the monthly Full Moon Party. We’re taking it back to the 90’s with the ultimate boyband tribute band, We are Larger Than Life for the first Full Moon Party of the year on April 29th.

Daily music and monthly celebrations are just part of what we do at the Beach House Resort, but let’s not forget about the most important day of the week… Taco Tuesday. Beginning March 20th until May 1st, The Porch Southern Kitchen and Bar is celebrating those perfect little handheld delicacies with $2 tacos, $4 Hornitos margaritas, and live music by three-piece Latin ensemble, La Pachanga. We’re kicking it up a notch for our Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Tiki Hut, sponsored by Hornitos Tequilia,  with $1 tacos, special Hornitos cocktails, and live music featuring both La Pachanga and our original house band JoJo Squirrel and the Homepickles.

The Beach House Resort is proud to welcome the return of the Southeast Bike Symposium from March 22 – 24. Tourism professionals, cycling enthusiasts, planners, government officials, and biking enthusiasts come together to, “celebrate successes, share lessons learned and exchange ideas on how to make the Southeast the best place to live, work, and play for biking in the United States."

If you’re ready to plan the Spring getaway of your dreams, we’re here to help. We can’t imagine spending this great season anywhere else and we’re so excited to share all Hilton Head Island has to offer with you.
